Day 2
Half Day Santubong Wildlife Cruise
Explore the rivers of the Santubong Peninsular and enjoy a fascinating introduction to Sarawak’s varied wildlife. Departing from the Sarawak Boat Club, the boat cruises to the mouth of the Santubong River, where rare Irrawaddy dolphins can often be spotted. Come along and live an intriguing rainforest wetland experience.
Roam mangrove-lined rivers in search of wildlife and when the light starts to fade, go in search of the rare proboscis monkey, which is an endangered species. Small groups are often seen in the treetops at the water edge, settling down for the night.
At dusk, search for crocodiles, which like to lay the mud banks, their eyes shining brightly when torchlight passes over them. Proceed upriver where fireflies gather at night and watch them zip around the mangroves and in the process lighting up the night sky.
Please note that wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, the tour enjoys a high success rate. Wildlife commonly seen on this tour includes proboscis monkeys, estuarine crocodiles, macaque monkeys, fireflies, monitor lizards, silver-leaf monkeys. Irrawaddy dolphins and a range of bird life like white-bellied sea eagles, white egrets, seagulls, kingfishers and more. Cruises do not operate during rainy weather.
